PCB Design Process

The PCB design services available at Linkytech Solutions cater for the specific needs and requirements of various projects. The aim of the bureau is to provide complete flexibility for all our clients, our services can be employed at any stage of the design process. Whether it is a complete design to manufacture service, post layout testing, Signal Integrity analysis, or board and component sourcing, our bureau has the capabilities and industry relationships to be able to deliver a wide range of projects on time and to budget.

Data preparation

Key to every PCB layout is the availability of the necessary information to create the library parts required for the design. The data preparation task requires the collation of data sheets for any devices where library parts do not exist, and verification of the data sheets to ensure there is sufficient legible dimensions for the new library part to be generated. Also by way of our unique Pre Design form we determine the exact requirements of the project and accumulate all the information neccessary to ensure a complete and accurate PCB design.

Library creation

Every device on a PCB requires a corresponding library part, by default Linkytech would work to the IPC 7351 specification for PCB footprints. When working with clients whom have their own CAD systems Linkytech will adopt the library standards of the client.Many companies have libraries that have grown over the years without any management, here Linkytech can offer a library grooming service to bring a library back under control and introduce agreed structure and specifications.

Circuit Diagrams

Circuit diagrams, Schematics, or Logics are the vehicle that conveys the design intent through to the PCB layout system; often our clients deliver completed CAD generated schematics. When required Linkytech will produce the Schematic. There is much more of the design intent that can be captured within the schematic than simply the connectivity. Linkytech actively encourage clients to fully utilise the schematic tool to add engineering constraints, these then drive the downstream layout processes.

PCB Layout

Put simply this is the process of component placement and routing, in practice this is an engineering discipline all on it’s own. PCB layouts require the PCB designer to take into consideration all aspects of the circuit, all aspects of the system design, each mechanical requirement, environmental requirements for the completed design, bare board manufacturing requirements and assembly and test requirements. The process at Linkytech is consultative and collaborative ensuring the design intent is delivered.

Post Layout Services

Once the design is completed Linkytech provide the agreed deliverables. These could be the complete PCB files, but may include, a manufacturing pack, assembly drawings and a BOM. PCB procurement, component sourcing and PCB Assembly Linkytech are able to provide a complete service, whether it is just the bare PCB’s or assembled and tested units.Often design clients require prototype PCB assemblies, fast. Linkytech excel in the business of kitting for the build whilst the design progresses and where parts are not available liaising with the client to substitute acceptable alternatives to keep the build on track.

Signal Integrity

According to industry consultants, over 80% of multi-layer PCB designs are high-speed, needing special design strategies addressing high-speed effects to ensure successful operation. This trend will continue in the coming years with the introduction of new low voltage technologies, increased board density, faster edge rates, and shorter development cycles. To help our clients to meet this challenge, Linkytech offer new methodologies to ensure the designs will work as desired, fulfilling all signal quality and timing demands. Working to old 'rules of thumb' is no-longer adequate to meet these requirements, so in order to be successful Linkytech offer open access to the suite of simulation capabilities. SI Verify is a solution that offers a complete pre and post-layout signal integrity simulation toolset, seamlessly integrated into Design tool. It uses an accurate transmission line simulation approach to analyze reflection and crosstalk effects, and to calculate the relevant timing information and delays. It can be used interactively by clients for selected nets as well as in batch-mode for an entire PCB
